01 — Approach
The underrated research channel
People searching for a product append "reddit" to their Google query more often than any brand would like. The answers there are considered unvarnished, which is exactly why Reddit threads now rank high in Google and appear as sources in AI answers. For brands this cuts twice: what Reddit says about you carries far beyond Reddit. How this connects to AI visibility is on our GEO page.
Advertising on Reddit follows its own rules. Ads have public comment sections, and a community notices immediately whether a brand speaks its language or just dumps budget. We have been running performance campaigns since 2006, and Reddit is the channel where the old rule applies most literally: the ad has to be a post that would work without ad budget behind it.
02 — Discipline
Formats and campaign types
The Reddit Ads Manager now covers the usual objectives: awareness, traffic, conversions, app installs and lead forms directly in the feed. The formats: promoted posts in the feed, video, carousel, Dynamic Product Ads with a product feed, and free-form ads for longer, editorially told posts. Two formats stand out: conversation placement puts the ad inside the comment thread, exactly where buying advice happens; benchmark providers measure clearly higher click rates there than in the feed. And Redditor Highlights, generally available since June 2026, embeds real, consent-based Reddit posts into ads.
03 — As of 2026
What is new in the Ads Manager right now
Since early 2026, Reddit has been building out the ads platform toward performance at a high pace. The state as of September 2026, with Reddit's self-reported numbers marked as such:
- MAX Campaigns: Reddit's answer to Advantage+ and PMax, introduced in early 2026. Automates targeting, bidding and creative selection; in beta for app campaigns since May, with around 15 percent lower CPA according to Reddit.
- Dual attribution (beta): Reddit's first-party attribution next to MMP and SKAN reporting in one view. Relevant because Reddit users rarely convert inside the click window.
- Split testing: native A/B testing in the Experiments dashboard, generally available since July. Entry point at 1,000 US dollars daily budget according to Reddit, winners declared at 65 percent confidence.
- Recommendations Center with an optimization score, analogous to Google Ads.
- AI creative tools (beta): an ad generator based on website content and Reddit discussions.
- Shopping Listing Ads (alpha): a multi-advertiser carousel in product comparison threads.
- Onboarding levers: campaign import from Meta, a simplified create flow, multi-currency and a one-click Google Tag Manager integration.
Our take: the automation is getting better, but as everywhere it only works with a clean conversion signal. MAX without the Conversions API is flying blind on autopilot.
04 — Discipline
Communities, not personas
Reddit's real asset is targeting by subreddit, complemented by interests and keywords. Instead of a modeled audience you book the place where your customers demonstrably discuss. Benchmark data shows a pattern we can confirm from practice: small niche communities are cheaper per click and often much stronger per conversion than the big default subreddits, and community targeting clearly beats interest targeting on click rate. In return, click prices scatter widely, from a few cents to double-digit dollars depending on the community.
For DACH this means: German-language communities like r/de, r/Finanzen or r/FragReddit for reach, plus geo targeting on the international specialist subreddits where German developers, founders and hobby niches already are. Especially B2B and tech audiences are often cheaper to reach here than via LinkedIn.
05 — Foundation
Pixel, Conversions API and fair measurement
Reddit is a research channel: days and a device switch often sit between the thread and the purchase. If you only measure last click, you will systematically underrate the channel and switch it off too early. That is why we build, before the first euro of budget:
- Reddit pixel plus Conversions API, connected server-side like the Conversion APIs of the other platforms. Only then can optimization and MAX Campaigns steer toward real purchases.
- A clean UTM structure down to community and creative level, following the conventions from our UTM generator.
- A measurement base that compares Reddit fairly with your other channels, including the new dual attribution, set up as described in our Tracking & Analytics stack.
Whether your measurement setup is ready for that, we can tell you after a short look: just reach out.
06 — Honest
When Reddit is not the right channel
Reddit forgives no shortcuts. Brands without substance on their topic get taken apart publicly in the comments, right under their own paid ad. Purely local offers with a small catchment area rarely find enough community. And if you judge success exclusively inside the click window, this channel will not make you happy.
Where we stand: Reddit rewards brands that have something to say and punishes everyone else in public. If your offer cannot sustain the discussion, we will say so in the first call, before any budget flows.
