Realize: What Is Behind Taboola's Performance Platform

Search for Taboola today and you land on a page called Realize. Not a new company, but the attempt to turn the internet's best-known recommendation widget into a performance platform for the whole open web. What has happened since February 2025, what Realize+ automates since April 2026, and what actually matters in practice.

Taboola Realize
TL;DR

Realize has been Taboola's advertising platform since February 26, 2025, replacing the old Taboola Ads Manager. Instead of widget teasers under articles only, it offers display, vertical video and app plus OEM inventory (Samsung, Xiaomi), steered toward CPA and conversion goals. Since April 23, 2026, Realize+ automates budget reallocation and creative production as an agentic system, including a Claude Skills integration. Our take: more than a rebrand, but the automation is only as good as the conversion signal you feed back, and the advertorial funnel remains mandatory.

What Realize is and since when it exists

Everyone who has ever read "You might also like" under a news article knows Taboola. The company has run recommendation widgets on publisher sites since 2007 and became, next to Outbrain, the biggest name in native advertising. On February 26, 2025, Taboola drew the conclusion from an uncomfortable truth: the widget business was seen as a reach channel, not a performance channel. The answer is Realize, a platform that according to Taboola knows only one goal: measurable outcomes beyond search and social.

Concretely, Realize opens up the inventory. Instead of widget teasers only, the platform also delivers display placements across entire publisher pages, vertical videos, and surfaces in apps and on device interfaces of OEM partners like Samsung and Xiaomi, in environments like NBC News and Yahoo. At launch, Taboola named customers like Babbel and eToro and sized the target market at around 55 billion US dollars flowing annually into performance advertising outside the big platforms. Those numbers come from Taboola's own market math, but the direction matches what we hear in client conversations: social is getting more expensive, and advertisers are looking for a third channel that can be steered toward purchases.

What changes versus the old Taboola

Four shifts matter in practice:

  • Bidding on goals instead of clicks. Realize is built around CPA and conversion goals; the system bids on impressions internally and moves budget toward the segments with the lowest real CPA. The old reflex of steering Taboola by click price leads you astray here.
  • More formats. Beyond the classic teaser: display units, carousels, vertical videos, repurposed social assets. If you already produce creatives for Meta, you can reuse them here.
  • More control. Bids by device, dayparting, API access and postback integrations for trackers. The level approaches what you know from the big platforms.
  • Same ground rule. The traffic remains native traffic: curious but cold. The advertorial funnel we describe on our native advertising page remains the part no platform takes over for you.

Realize+: the agentic upgrade

On April 23, 2026, after several months of beta, the second stage followed: Realize+ is Taboola's agentic system, meaning software that does not suggest campaign decisions but makes and executes them itself. Two building blocks sit at the center: the Budget Allocator shifts budgets in real time toward the campaigns currently delivering, and the Element Generator creates and refines ads and targeting without manual updates. Beta customers at launch included Meliá Hotels and Sonova.

The opening to the outside is remarkable: Taboola is connecting Realize to Claude Skills, starting with a skill for campaign setup and optimization, with more announced for 2026. That makes the platform operable straight from AI workflows, a pattern we see at more and more ad platforms in 2026. Taboola justifies the move with its own surveys, according to which around 80 percent of marketers would invest more in the open web if automated, AI-powered solutions existed there. Also self-reported, but it describes real pressure: nobody has team capacity for a third manually maintained channel.

Our take

Is Realize just a rebrand? No, too much has changed in the product for that. Is it the finished Meta replacement? Not that either. Three things we would hold on to:

First: the shift from click to conversion steering is real and is what makes the channel worth discussing for performance teams in the first place. Second: automation amplifies the signal it receives. A budget allocator optimizing on poorly measured conversions moves budget quickly and confidently in the wrong direction. Server-side conversion feedback via postbacks or a Conversions API is therefore not optional polish but the ticket in. Third: the market is re-sorting itself. The other big native player has shed its skin too: Outbrain acquired Teads in early 2025 and has operated under that name since. Anyone asking "Taboola or Outbrain" today is really comparing Realize with Teads, and both want to leave the widget image behind.

If you want to know whether this funnel carries your offer: we have been running performance campaigns since 2006, native is a fixed part of that, and in the intro call we will tell you honestly whether the channel fits your product and budget.

What it means for your campaigns

  1. Existing Taboola accounts: Review the bidding strategy. Steering by click price logic works against the platform's own optimization.
  2. Measurement before budget: Connect postbacks or the Conversions API, UTM structure down to publisher level, blocklists from data. Without that, every automation gain remains a claim.
  3. Repurpose creatives: Test vertical videos and social assets in Realize before commissioning new productions.
  4. Test Realize+ under control: Activate agentic budget shifting only once conversion data is clean, and benchmark the first weeks against a manually steered campaign.
  5. Build or renovate the advertorial funnel: teaser, advertorial, offer. No platform changes that.
